Unfortunately, there is no one good answer for what PSI is too high for tires. This is because it greatly depends on the type of tire you have mounted on your vehicle, and what type of vehicle you own. For passenger tires the correct PSI is between 44 and 50. Other tire types will need higher PSI levels.
